CannabisMD Features our Keynote, Riley Cote
Our Cannabis Private Investment Summit Florida keynote speaker, Riley Cote, was featured in an article by CannabisMD last week! See the article here.
In case you missed it, here are some excerpts from our initial backgrounder with Riley:
On the potential for athletes:
“Once I retired at 28, I fully realized the scope and the magnitude of cannabis as a healing plant. It promotes mental health versus a depressant like alcohol or some of the toxic things that most people consume on a daily basis that can have a [negative] impact on brain health. Many guys are struggling post-career. They're struggling with the actual process of retiring, struggling with identity, struggling with addiction, struggling with the change. They're leaning on resources that aren't sustainable like opioids and alcohol. They need sustainable, healthier alternatives like cannabis.”
On education and destigmatization:
“Every team I played on...there was always a good chunk of guys who consumed, but there wasn’t enough communication or information on what cannabis was really doing for mental health or recovery. We're a lot more conscious now when it comes to self-medicating.Cannabis is coming to light at the same time as we're facing so many crises—the opioid crisis, the obesity crisis, the healthcare crisis, and the mental health crisis. I think cannabis can bring some balance back into the equation.”
On being an Enforcer — for Hemp:
“I have always been an advocate of cannabis, but my sister's MS (multiple sclerosis) had a huge, huge role in me stepping up more publicly. Her disease combined with my own experience and exposure fueled my passion to more aggressively advocate for cannabis solutions. I thought, there's got to be a better way. There has got to be a better way to manage these sick people, and there has to be a better way to prevent these diseases from happening. Hemp was the solution for me. Others can and should benefit similarly.”
